Assassin’s Creed fans are eagerly awaiting news about the next entry in Ubisoft’s long running series. After releasing Assassin’s Creed Origins in October 2017, the developer has since pushed back several times due to technical issues. In fact, the latest delay saw the game pushed back until 2021.
The game itself hasn’t had much information revealed about it, but one thing we do know is that it will take place during the American Revolution. This is something we’ve already known thanks to leaked screenshots, but it seems like the developers are planning to make sure that the setting isn’t too familiar.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity: Setting, free-to-play, platforms & everything we know – Dexerto
Ubisoft have reportedly revealed that the next installment in the franchise will be titled ‘Assassin’s Creed Infinity.’ While there isn’t much information known about it, fans are excited to hear that it’ll be a free-to-play online experience.
A leak from Game Informer claims that the upcoming game will take place during the French Revolution. Considering how popular the franchise is, it makes sense that Ubisoft would want to expand upon their established lore.
The report says that the game will feature a variety of different gameplay styles including parkour, melee combat, and even ship battles. There are also rumors that the game will include a large amount of side missions, similar to those found in Destiny 2.
The publication also states that Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be included in the base package, along with the ability to play as Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad. However, players will also be able to purchase additional costumes and weapons.
There is still no word on whether or not the game will release in 2018 like previous installments.
Where will Assassin’s Creed Infinity be set?
Assassin’s Creed Infinity is expected be a live service game. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told GamesIndustry.biz that it “will be a very rich experience.” He continued, saying, “We are trying to do something completely different. We want to tell stories across many periods of time… You will be able to go back and forth between those periods of time, and you will be able to play them simultaneously.”
As content inevitably gets added to this title, we wouldn’t necessarily be surprised to see Assassin’s Creed Infinity attempt to have several different eras explored down the road. This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has attempted to take the franchise in a new direction. In 2013, Assassin’s Creed 4 introduced a free-roaming gameplay style, while Assassin’s Creed Rogue followed suit in 2011.
Will Assassin’s Creed Infinity be free-to-play?
Ubisoft are moving away from the traditional single player experience and into the world of multiplayer gaming. While some fans of the franchise might be worried about how this change could affect the quality of the game, others see it as an opportunity to expand the reach of the brand. In fact, we think there’s a good chance that Ubisoft will make the switch to free-to-play sooner rather than later.
The reason why? Well, it makes sense for the company to do so now that they’re making the jump into the competitive online space. There’s no doubt that people want to spend money on things when playing games, and the free-to-player model allows players to try out different aspects of a game without having to commit to spending real cash.
This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has experimented with F2P – remember Far Cry 3? And while the publisher hasn’t confirmed that they’ll be doing anything like that again, it seems likely that they’ll continue down this route. After all, it worked well enough for Watch Dogs 2.
We’ve got our fingers crossed that this doesn’t mean that the next Assassin’s Creed will be a paywall game, though. If you don’t buy the base game, you’ll miss out on quite a few features, including the ability to access the Animus. But hey, maybe Ubisoft will surprise us and release a premium version of the game anyway.
Which platforms will Assassin’s Creed Infinity 2022 be on?
There has been no comment from Ubisoft regarding the availability of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, but it should be available on most platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, and Stadia.
Only two things remain to be seen: will it be available on last-generation consoles – the PS4 and Xbox One – and will the Nintendo Switch support Infinity? Ubisoft may look to phase out the older consoles from the release cycle since the latest PlayStations and Xboxes have been out for a while.
Ubisoft is being selective going forward in 2022, as several older Assassin’s Creed games are already available on the Switch, but Valhalla isn’t.
Assassin’s Creed ‘Rift’
A new report suggests that a new Assassin’s Creed game could be in development. The report claims that the game, which is expected to be titled ‘Rift,’ will be the next chapter in Ubisoft Montreal’s long-running series and will launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The report also reveals that the game was originally an Assassin’s Creeds Valhalla DLC, but Ubisoft changed their release schedule to make it a full franchise entry.
The chapter was reportedly set to feature the popular assassin Basim as the primary protagonist and story arc. During development, however, the studio decided to convert Rift into a standalone game set after the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
While the game has been rumored since 2017, the latest reports suggest that the project is still under active development.
