Kwame Brown Net Worth – Here’s what Kwame Brown has earned so far

Kwame Brown Net Worth and Salary: Kwame Brown is an American basketball player who has a net worth of $8 million. Brown may be best known for his role-playing roles with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played alongside Kobe Bryant, but he has also played for several other NBA teams, including the Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Combined with his salaries and advertising revenue, Kwame earned around $100 million during his career. Unfortunately, later in his career he faced some financial problems. At one point, he even sued his financial advisors at Merrill Lynch, claiming they stole $17.4 million from his accounts. More on that later in the article.

Early Life/High School Career: Kwame Brown was born on March 10, 1982 in Charleston, South Carolina. In high school, he attended Glynn Academy in Georgia. During his time there, he set the school record for rebounds (1,235) and blocked shots (605).

Often referred to as the “best high school player” in his class, Brown faced stiff competition from high school stars Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry. In his senior year in Georgia, Brown was named High School Player of the Year. Brown finished his high school career at historic Glynn Academy (in Brunswick, Georgia). He earned further accolades as the famed school’s leading rebounder with a total of 1,235 rebounds, not to mention 605 blocked shots. Brown also placed second in the all-time scoring category with 1,539 points.

Brown was selected to the McDonald’s All-American Team in 2001.

NBA Career: Brown’s unparalleled performance as a high schooler perhaps contributed to what some would describe as a “below-par” career in the NBA. The Washington Wizards, under owner and iconic basketball player Michael Jordan, selected Brown as their first pick in the 2001 NBA draft. Brown told acting Wizards coach Doug Collins (who coached Jordan earlier in his career and has a close relationship with Jordan entertained): “If you draft me, you’ll never regret it.” Brown would be the first player to be picked at No. 1 straight out of high school.

Brown experienced a huge amount of hype in his first year – which came with sky-high expectations. Brown’s rookie season has been marred by what some would describe as a lack of maturity, not to mention a serious lack of production on the field. In his rookie season, he only averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

It’s no secret that Brown was pushed back and forth throughout his years in the league as many teams struggled to find a spot for him on the field and in their rosters. Brown has played for teams like the Washington Wizards, LA Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats, Golden State Warriors, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

His third year was perhaps Brown’s best. He posted career highs in points (10.9) and rebounds (7.4). During his career, Brown has averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. After being released by the 76ers in November 2013, he became a free agent.

Post-NBA Career: Brown would sign with player agency Interperformances (August 22, 2016) after leaving the NBA for three years, in an attempt to make a comeback to the game he loved and played in earlier years.

Brown was named the fifth overall pick for the BIG3 basketball league’s inaugural draft in 2017. Brown played on the 3 Headed Monsters team, a team that made it to the Alternate League Finals. The Monsters ended up losing to Trilogy with a final score of 51-46.

Legal/Financial Troubles: Brown has had a slew of legal and financial troubles, including a 2007 arrest for obstructing an investigation. Brown was also accused of throwing a cake at a man in Hermosa Beach that same year. In that case, however, the charges were eventually dropped.

During his career, Kwame Brown earned $64 million in salary before taxes and fees. Between advertising revenue and salary (and after taxes), Brown earned an additional $35 million.

Unfortunately, as revealed in a 2018 lawsuit, Kwame alleged that his financial advisors at Merrill Lynch stole $17.4 million from his investment portfolio. Brown alleges that his signature was forged on various forms, allowing the advisors to make investments and stock deals that he had not approved of.

Brown was later arrested by Georgia State Police on March 31, 2019. He was charged with felony possession of edible marijuana products as well as misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
