The NBA season is underway, and we are pleased to announce our latest addition to the Wordle family: Poeltl! This is the first time we have included a basketball-related word into our product, so let us know what you think about his debut.
NBA fans are so excited
The NBA season is officially underway, meaning it’s time to start watching games. But while you’re waiting for the action to begin, you might want to check out some of the best highlights from the preseason.
In case you missed it, here are five things we learned during the preseason.
#1: LeBron James Is Still King
LeBron James is still the king of basketball. He dominated the game against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 31 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, dishing out eight assists, nabbing three steals and blocking one shot. James finished with a triple-double in the Cavs’ win.
#2: Kawhi Leonard Has A Lot To Prove
Kawhi Leonard had quite the offseason. After being traded from San Antonio to Toronto, he spent most of free agency trying to find a new home. In the end, he signed a four-year deal worth $142 million with the Clippers. Leonard averaged 17.4 points per game last season, but he struggled shooting the ball. So far in training camp, he’s been much better, hitting 41.7 percent of his shots from 3-point range.
#3: Stephen Curry And Klay Thompson Are Back Together Again
Try it without the silhouette
The NBA All-Star Game is just days away, and fans are already getting excited for the festivities. While we wait for the action to start, there’s plenty of basketball talk to keep us busy. And one of those topics is the upcoming dunk contest. There are some big names involved, including reigning champ Giannis Antetokounmpo, and many people are wondering how the event will play out. One thing is certain though, there won’t be anyone named “Poeltl” participating.
That’s because the Milwaukee Bucks center announced Thursday that he’ll be skipping the dunk contest altogether. In his place, the Bucks have invited fellow rookie Donte DiVincenzo. DiVincenzo had a breakout season last year, averaging nearly 14 points per game while shooting 43% from 3-point range. He’s also proven himself to be quite capable of putting up impressive numbers in the paint, scoring over 20 points eight times.
While DiVincenzo isn’t exactly known for his athleticism, he has shown flashes of being able to put the ball down whenever he wants. That’s something that could come in handy against guys like Antetokounmpou or LeBron James. But even if he doesn’t win, don’t count him out of winning the Rookie of the Year award.
DiVincenzo joins Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Deandre Ayton, Luka Doncic, Kyle Kuzma, Trae Young, Marvin Bagley III, and Ja Morant as players who have been eliminated from the dunk contest. For now, let’s enjoy watching DiVincenzo take part in the festivities.
How did Karl-Anthony Towns post this Wordle score?
Towns scored a perfect 10 points on Friday’s Wordle, landing in the top spot with a total of 20 points. But it wasn’t easy. In fact, it took him three tries to figure out how to spell “ulcer.”
The hard part is figuring out that “U” lands in slot number one, but Towns was apparently among the lucky ones who figured that out on their first try.
He missed the second and third slots before guessing the word on the fourth attempt. That’s where our drama begins.
You see, he got a green result for his second letter, which seemingly shouldn’t happen.
But he still managed to land in the top five with a score of seven points.

Wordle harder with New York Times?
The original version of Wordle, a word cloud generator, was acquired by the New York Times in May 2017. While some people loved it, others complained about how much easier the newer version seemed to make the process of creating a word cloud. One Twitter user even claimed that the new version of Wordle was “harder.”
Players have voiced outrage over words such as vivid, cynic, rupee, and ulcer being used which contain irregular vowels making them more difficult to predict. The NYT has denied any allegation of difficulty in the game, saying that they simply wanted to improve the experience.
Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks are an American professional basketball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association.
They play home games at Philips Arena.
The Hawks are one of four teams in the NBA without a state nickname, along with the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and Philadelphia 76ers.
In 2018, Forbes ranked the franchise as the fifth most valuable sports franchise in the world.
The Hawks finished the 2017–18 season with a 51–31 record, clinching the third seed in the East playoffs. In the First Round, they defeated the Washington Wizards 2–1. In the Second Round, they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 4–2.
Brooklyn Nets
The NBA All-Star game is coming soon, and the Brooklyn Nets are getting ready. On Thursday, the team announced the creation of a special hashtag to help fans decide what songs should be played during the festivities. Fans can submit their suggestions via Twitter under #NBASongs.
Fans can vote once per day for their favorite song from the list of suggested tracks. The fan with the most votes will receive a free pair of tickets to attend the All-Star game in New Orleans.
To celebrate the launch of #NBASongs, the team also unveiled a full tracklist featuring the names of each player along with the corresponding song titles.
Here are the players’ nicknames and the songs they’ll be rocking during the festivities:
Kyrie Irving – “One More Shot”
Kevin Durant – “I Promise”
James Harden – “Harden Time”
Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets are getting into the spirit of things with some fun basketball-inspired art.
BuzzCityBurger, which is owned by the team, took inspiration from the 1997 comedy flick ” Good Burger.” In the movie, the main character played by Kenan Thompson goes to a burger joint called Buzz City Burgers where he sees his friends playing basketball in a photo booth. He asks what the photo booth looks like and the owner says it’s just a picture of a hamburger.
So, the Hornets did something similar with three players’ portraits that were inspired by the movie.
LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridge and Terry Rozier are the three NBA players whose photos were used for the artwork.
Ball, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, is the youngest player in the league. His father, LaVar, is famous for being outspoken about his son’s game.
Miles Bridges, who plays for the Detroit Pistons, is known for being a tough defender and rebounder. And Rozier, who plays for the Boston Celtics, is known for having a high shooting percentage.
Each portrait features a different quote from the movie. For instance, LaMelo Ball’s is “I’m gonna make you look stupid,” while Miles Bridges’ is “You’re outta here!”
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly planning to leak a new Pokemon card, naming guard Allen Iverson as the team’s next head coach.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs plan to release a “Pokemon Go”-inspired card featuring Iverson, who played for the franchise between 1996 and 2004.
Iverson, 42, was recently hired by the Houston Rockets following the firing of Mike D’Antoni. He served as an assistant under D’Antoni during his tenure in Phoenix.
He’ll replace former Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who left the organization to take over as president of basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls.
Denver Nuggets
Jokic’s All-Stars are ready to take over the league. And while the NBA MVP candidate has been getting plenty of attention for his play during the postseason, the Nuggets’ social media team took it upon themselves to put together some fun memes for fans to enjoy.
With the help of Jokic himself, the team posted several videos on Twitter showing off some of the best reactions to the Nuggets’ star player. In one video, Jokic is seen sitting courtside at a game wearing a suit jacket and tie. But when he sees another fan dressed up like him, he starts laughing hysterically.
In another video, Jokic gets into a playful argument with teammate Will Barton about how many points he scored against the Mavericks in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.
And finally, there’s a short clip where Jokic is shown watching the final seconds tick down on the clock in the fourth quarter of Game 7 of the Western Conference finals against Golden State. After the shot goes in, Jokic turns to the camera and says, “I’m sorry.”
Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry became a household name following his MVP performance during the 2017 NBA Finals. But it wasn’t always easy for him to become one of the league’s most popular players. In fact, he went through some tough times early in his career.
Curry was born in Davidson, North Carolina, where he attended Charlotte Christian School. After graduating, he enrolled at nearby Wake Forest University to pursue a degree in economics. However, he left school after just one semester because he didn’t feel like it was what he wanted to do.
That’s when Curry turned to basketball. His mother, Sonya, played college ball at UNC Chapel Hill, while his father Dell played at NC State. Both of them encouraged Steph to take up the sport, even though he was 5’3″.
After playing AAU ball for several years, Curry joined the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). At the age of 16, he signed with Adidas and began working out with Team Takeover. During his time there, he met Montross Hamilton, a fellow AAU player. They formed a friendship and eventually teamed up with each other.
In 2009, Curry entered the Nike Hoop Summit, a highly competitive tournament held in Washington D.C., where he faced future NBA stars such as John Wall, Blake Griffin, and Kevin Durant. He lost to Durant in the final round.
Soon after, he moved on to another AAU team called Playground Elite. While he was still young, he won numerous tournaments including the McDonald’s High School All-America Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.
While attending Davidson College, Curry averaged 26 points per game, leading the Wildcats to a 33–2 record. He was named second-team All-ACC and earned Freshman All-America honors.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are one step closer to winning the NBA Championship. After defeating the Toronto Raptors in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the team now faces the Golden State Warriors in the 2018 NBA Finals. With each passing day, fans are getting closer and closer to seeing the Lakers hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time since 2010. To help celebrate the occasion, the Lakers took to social media to remind everyone how far they’ve come.
In the second week of fan vote counting, James trailed Curry for most in his conference. However, he quickly closed the gap and overtook him within the next few days. On June 9th, James led the way with nearly 700,000 votes. By the end of the month, he held a lead of more than 900,000 votes. This gave him the number two spot overall.
With the win, the Lakers secured home court advantage throughout the playoffs. They’ll play the Portland Trail Blazers in the opening round starting Thursday night.
Karl-Anthony Towns blames Wordle glitch
After Karl-Anthony Towns shared his Wordles on social media, many people pointed out that he hadn’t actually posted the correct solution. He responded by saying that he’d used the wrong URL to link to the puzzle.
Towns explained that he’d gotten confused because he’d put the puzzle on the NYT’s website, and then linked to the puzzle on the NBA’s website. When he went to share the puzzle, he thought that he was linking to the NYT version, even though he was really linking to the NBA one. So, he blamed the mistake on the fact that he’d used the same URL for both sites.
He also clarified that he didn’t want to cheat anyone; he just wanted to show off how hard the puzzles are.
NBA Star Accused Of Cheating At Wordle
Karl-Anthony Towns has been caught cheating at the daily word game known as Wordle. The Minnesota Timberwolves star posted a cheerful Wordle result showing a correct answer on Monday, but eagle-eyed fans quickly spotted something fishy about the grid.
The grid showed a success on the third try, but there are no words containing the combination UC_ER. Instead, the grid refers to the previous day’s solution: PAUSE.
After accusing the athlete of cheating, fans began pointing out that the Wordle grid isn’t meant to refer to the previous day’s Wordle solution, but rather the most recent one.
Towns eventually posted a video explaining what happened, saying that he was trying to play the game correctly. He admitted that he usually doesn’t use videos to explain things like this, but felt compelled to do so because of the backlash he received.
Wordle is a free online app that allows users to generate images based off of text. Users can upload text files into the program, and it’ll automatically find similar phrases and combine them together. The end product looks like a fun way to visualize data, but some gamers aren’t happy about the fact that the app randomly generates grids without warning.
