1. Upgrade your magical protection
The battle against Rennala has begun! As we’ve seen in previous fights, there is no real way to prepare yourself for the onslaught of magical attacks she unleashes upon you. Your best bet is to bring along some magical protections, like the Karolos Glintstones Crown and the Raya Lucarian Robes – both of which grant you resistance against magical damage. In addition, you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing your most magically protective gear, since Rennala’s attacks tend to be quite powerful.
If you do find yourself under attack, try switching out your normal equipment for something that offers better protection against magical attacks. For instance, the Karolos Glintstones Crown grants you resistance against magical damage while also granting you +10% chance to block enemy attacks. This makes it ideal for countering her attacks.
2. How to beat phase 1 quickly
Rennala’s boss fight consists of three phases. Phase 2 is where she starts moving around, and trying to figure out how to kill you while staying away from you. This is where we start getting into some strategy.
Phase 1 is incredibly simple. As soon as you see Rennala, make sure to run towards her and hit her with everything you’ve got. She’ll immediately start casting spells on you, and those spells are very powerful. If you’re lucky enough to land a few hits, she’ll fall unconscious. At this point, you can take a moment to heal up, grab some potions, and try again.
The key here is to keep attacking her as much as possible. Don’t worry too much about missing her, since she won’t actually move far during this phase. Once you manage to knock her down, she’ll wake up and start throwing magic at you. When she does, you want to attack her as fast as you can. Her spells don’t do anything special against you, but they are still pretty dangerous.
Once you’ve knocked her down, you can either wait for her to wake up and start fighting back, or you can go ahead and finish her off. Either way, you’ll win the battle.
3. Play as aggressively as possible in phase 2
Phase 2 is where Rennalla transforms into a true threat. She has been weakened since the beginning of the fight, but now she is fully powered up and ready to take over the battlefield. Her main attack is a powerful spell called “Darkness”, which deals massive damage to nearby enemies. This spell is very easy to interrupt, so it is important to keep away from her and use melee attacks to deal significant damage.
However, despite her intimidating spells and high power level, she herself has low composure and can be easily interrupted by melee attacks. Therefore, you should endeavour as much as possible to keep a safe distance from her while dodging her magic attacks. If you are able to do this successfully, you will be rewarded with some extra experience points.
4. Use Rennala’s spinning shield attack as a chance to heal
Rennala is a tricky enemy to fight. Her attacks are fast and she has access to some pretty powerful spells. She’s got a lot of health too. So how do you defeat her? Well, there’s no single answer. Instead, here are four things you can try.
1. Don’t let yourself get caught out in open space. When you see her spinning staff, duck behind cover. Then use your movement abilities to move away from her.
2. Dodge her attacks. They don’t seem to come every round, but when they do they’re quite powerful. And while dodging isn’t always possible, it’s usually better than taking damage.
3. Heal up. There are plenty of moments where Rennala creates a shield around herself. These are great times to heal up. Just make sure you drink a potion before you start fighting again. Otherwise you might end up getting hit by another spell.
4. Be patient. Rennala doesn’t like to stand still. Sometimes she’ll spin around and come at you from different directions. If you wait for her to stop moving, she’ll eventually tire and you’ll be able to land a few hits. Alternatively, just keep attacking and she’ll eventually run out of stamina.
5. Ignore her small summons, avoid her big summons
Rennala is one of the most powerful bosses in Monster Hunter World. She’s a tough fight, though, and it takes a lot of patience to beat her. If you’re looking to take down this boss without spending too much time grinding, here are five tips to help you out.
1. Don’t let her heal up
The biggest challenge facing players attempting to defeat Rennala is keeping her alive long enough to finish off her. When she starts summoning spirits, she’ll do so in phases. Phase One is where she summons Lone Wolves. These are relatively easy to dodge, but they can be annoying. You can just run around the room avoiding them, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try to kill them.
Phase Two is where things start getting tricky. At this stage, Rennala begins summoning Spirit Ashes, which are far more difficult to evade. Instead of summoning a single wolf, she’ll summon three Spirits at once, each with a different set of abilities. While dodging these isn’t impossible, it does require quite a bit of coordination. The best way to handle this situation is to roll through them, killing the Spirits quickly.
2. Avoid her big summons
Once Rennala reaches Phase Three, she’ll begin summoning Dragons. This is the worst possible scenario because she’ll summon a dragon every 30 seconds. You won’t be able to avoid these, so you’ll need to either kill them or wait for them to disappear. Either way, you’ll need to deal with them before they become a real threat.
3. Keep attacking her
While dodging is important, it’s not the only thing that matters. You also need to attack Rennala as often as possible. Even if you manage to dodge all of her attacks, she’ll continue to fire projectiles at you. It’s important to stay on top of her health bar and keep attacking until she runs out of stamina.
4. Use potions wisely
If you’re having trouble dealing with Rennala, you may want to consider using healing potions. However, you should use them sparingly. If you use them too frequently, you risk running low on energy and being unable to defend yourself against her next attack.
5. Focus on your weapons
It’s worth noting that Rennala has two main weaknesses: Her horns and her tail. Both of these parts of her body will break when hit by certain weapons. As such, you should focus on finding weapons that can damage these areas. For example, the Bowgun fires a projectile that deals heavy damage to both her horns and tail.
