The opening hours at the stock exchange are often different in different countries. We show when the stock exchanges in Asia , Europe and North America open, when trading in securities is also possible outside of opening hours and when stock exchange holidays are scheduled in Germany.
When does the New York Stock Exchange open?
The New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street is considered the largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) hours of operation follow North American standards. The NYSE is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. , which corresponds to 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Europe. The New York Stock Exchange is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
When does the stock market open for the Asian market?
Most Asian countries have different regulations for the opening hours of the stock exchanges than in New York. In China , the markets are open from 2:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. based on European times, and in Hong Kong even until 9 a.m. In Japan , trading hours are between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. our time.
Asia also has a lunch break, which suspends trading on China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange from 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. , Hong Kong Stock Exchange from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m., and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 30 p.m. to 6 a.m. . In Japan, the Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed from 3:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.
When does the stock exchange open in Germany and Europe?
The Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Lisbon locations are combined as the multi-country exchange Euronext. This is always open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CET). Digital trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange opens in the same period. The traditional securities trading, floor exchange , ends in Frankfurt at 8:00 p.m. Trading in structured products is offered until 10 p.m.
When is the stock exchange closed in Germany?
All stock exchanges in Germany are closed at the weekend. The stock market holidays are usually based on the public holidays. These trading-free holidays therefore differ across countries, which is why each exchange publishes its own trading calendar. This shows on which days the stock exchange is closed.
In general, however, the following days are considered stock exchange holidays in Germany:

- 12/31/2022 New Year’s Eve
Are stock exchanges closed on weekends?
Almost all stock exchanges and stock markets are closed at the weekend. One of the few exceptions here is Israel, since the weekend is always Friday and Saturday because of the Sabbath rule. The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange opens from Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (CET). Another exception is the Tehran Stock Exchange. Iran’s largest stock exchange opens for trading from Saturday to Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (CET).
Can I also trade outside the opening hours of the exchanges?
In principle, trading is also possible outside of the specified opening times on many stock exchanges. This is known as pre- or post-market trading. On the New York Stock Exchange, for example, investors can trade from as early as 10:00 a.m. CET, and after-hours trading is even possible until 2:00 a.m. (CET).
In Germany, pre-market trading is already possible at 8:00 a.m. This is one hour before the actual opening time. After-hours trading ends at 8:00 p.m. In addition to major shareholders and investors, small investors also use the times outside of regular trading hours to buy or sell shares.
In addition, there is corresponding trading software with which private investors can also trade completely outside of stock exchange hours. Direct trading (OTC trading) is not bound by official regulations. In addition, there are fewer costs for over-the-counter trading, as certain exchange fees are eliminated.
