WWE Female Wrestlers List

1. Ashley Massaro

Ashley Massaro

WWE seems to have big things in store for Ashley Massaro. In fact, it looks like she might be getting ready to make a comeback. On Monday night, Massaro won the Divas Search competition and now appears set to join the roster as a baby face. As part of the promotion, she’ll compete in matches against some of the best female wrestlers in the industry. Before joining the WWE, Massaro had a successful run managing Kendrik and London and facing off against Torrie Wilson and Mickaelle James.

Massaro was soon promoted to one of the top faces in WWE, becoming a regular presence on Raw. Even though she never held the Women’s Championship, she did challenge for it at WrestleMania XXIII. Unfortunately, she lost to Melina.

After being sidelined for several months due to injury, Massaro returned to TV in late 2016. She competed in the Mae Young Classic, where she defeated Tessa Blanchard in the finals. Her next appearance came at SummerSlam 2017, where she teamed with Charlotte Flair to defeat Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.

2. Nidia

Nidia

Nidia was one of the first female wrestlers to come out of the Tough Enough competition in 2004. She had a very short stint in the WWE where she was given a storyline romance with fellow competitor Jamie Noble. They were a good team together, especially during their feud against Torrie Wilson. However, it wasn’t long before Nidia became blinded by Tajiri’s mist. This left her unable to compete and forced her into retirement.

3. Bull Nakano

Bull Nakano

Bull Nakano was not your usual WWE Diva. She was big, bad, and just a little terrifying. Nakano had two runs with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), neither one lasting long enough to make much impact on the division. During her second stint, Nakano had a prominent role in the company when she feuded with Alundra Blaize. As part of the storyline, Blaize took some shots at Nakano’s looks, calling her “a fat cow.”

Nakano responded by tossing Blaize around like a ragdoll. At Summer Slam 1994, Nakano threw Blaize into the ring steps and proceeded to beat her down. This was the start of what became known as the “Blayze/Nakano Feud,” which lasted several months.

Check out Nakano’s work with Blaize at Summer Slam 1994 for a hard-hitting Divas match the likes ofwhich we don’t see anymore today.

4.Tori

Tori WWE

Tori is one of those rare WWE Superstars whose career spans four decades. She began wrestling in 1980 under the name “Tori Malakai,” and went on to become one of the most popular female stars in the history of professional wrestling. Her trademark entrance music was “I’m A Woman.”

She became known as “The Glamazon” thanks to her signature look — a blonde bob wig, fishnet stockings, and high heels — and her aggressive style of wrestling. During her tenure with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Tori won three WCW Women’s Championships, including a reign as champion from 1992 to 1993.

In 1997, Tori joined the WWF and was given the nickname “Ice Princess.” There, she formed a tag team with Debra McMichael called “The Power Twins.” They feuded with Lita and Terri Runnels, winning several matches against them.

After being fired from the WWF, Tori returned to WCW in 2001, where she formed another tag team with Debra called “The New Powers of Terror.” They defeated Jacqueline and Miss Hancock in 2002.

A few months later, Tori left WCW again and joined rival promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). There, she formed a second tag team with Debra named “The Beautiful People.” Together, they held the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Titles twice, defeating Awesome Kong and ODB in 2005 and Tara and Velvet Sky in 2006.

Tori returned to WWE in 2008, where she teamed with Victoria in a losing effort against Trish Stratus and Melina at WrestleMania XXIV. Afterward, Tori retired from active competition.

5. Maria Kanellis

Maria Kanellis

Maria was born in New York City. Her parents are both Italian immigrants. She grew up in Staten Island and attended high school in Brooklyn. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1997 with a degree in communications.

She was one of five contestants competing in the 2005 Diva Search competition. She went on to work for World Wrestling Entertainment as a backstage interviewer. In 2010, she became part of the cast of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. She has been married twice. Her first husband was Santino Marella, whom she wed in 2007. They separated in 2011. They divorced in 2012. In 2013, she married Dolph Ziggler. Their marriage lasted three months.

6. Jillian Hall

Jillian Hall WWE

Jillian Hall was introduced into WWE programming in 2001 as a comedic character. She initially joined up with JBL’s Cabinet stable. Something stood out though: there was a giant, disgusting and fake-sounding mole on her face. A little later, Vince McMahon announced on Raw that he had signed a contract with Hall, and that she would become the next Diva Search winner. He even called her the “future Divas champion.”

The company went ahead with it and revolved an entire gimmicks around it. Mercifully, it was removed by The Boogeyman in 2002 when he bit it off. Afterward, she became a member of Lita’s valet stable, where she remained until 2007. In 2008, she returned to TV as part of the ECW brand under the name Jillian McMichael. She left again in 2009.

7. Leilani Kai

Leilani Kai WWE

Leilani Kai began her career in professional wrestling during the early ’80s. She debuted in 1984, competing in several independent promotions across North America. In 1986, Kai joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), where she became one of the most popular female wrestlers of the era. At WrestleMania I, Kai defeated Wendi Richter for the Women’s Championship. However, the following month, she lost the belt to Madusa. Kai left the WWF shortly thereafter, though she continued to make appearances until 1989.

After retiring from pro wrestling, Kai worked as a model and actress. She also served as co-host of WWE Raw and SmackDown Live.

8. Bertha Faye

Bertha Faye

Bertha Faye was one of those wrestlers who never quite fit into the mold of what you expected a wrestler to be. She didn’t come out looking like a traditional female athlete—she came out wearing a bikini. And, unlike many of her peers, she never really wore it again.

Faye had a raw power that no one else could match. In fact, it was almost impossible to tell whether she was male or female. And while there are plenty of men who can deliver a devastating powerbomb, there aren’t very many women who can do it. So, when Faye debuted in 1987, she was immediately given a ridiculous gimmick. She was billed as the Queen of Queens, and she was supposed to be a sort of cross between Miss Elizabeth and Mae Young. But that was just a cover story. She was actually a man.

Once she debuted, however, she was stuck with the same old thing. She was always booked against guys, and she was never allowed to use her signature move. If she did, she was told to apologize for being such a “manly woman.”

She decided to bring her talent over to the WWF. And once she arrived, she was forced to wear a stupid outfit. She didn’thave much choice in the matter; the WWF had already signed her up. But once she debuted, she was stuck with another ridiculous gimmick. She was still billed as the Queen of the Queens, but now she was supposed to be some sort of cross between Mae Young and Miss Elizabeth.

9. Gail Kim

Gail Kim

Gail Kim had some great moments during her tenure in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. She won the women’s championship in her very first match, and she was one of the best female wrestlers of the 2000s. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.

Kim debuted as a villainous character named “The Matrix,” complete with a black leather jacket and red lipstick, and she took on the likes of Velvet Sky and Awesome Kong. But once she lost the Women’s Title to Mickie James, things went downhill fast.

Her Matrix persona was dropped, and she was soon portrayed as a heel. Kim teamed with Molly Holly to face Trish Stratus and Victoria in a tag team match, and they were soundly defeated.

In late 2007, Kim left TNA for good.

10. Judy Martin

Judy Martin

Judy Martin was one of the great female wrestlers of all time. She won the WWF Women’s Tag Team Championship twice, along with her tag team partner Leilani Kai. In addition, she was part of the inaugural Survivor Series event, competing alongside Sherri Martel. But what you might not know about Martin is that she holds the record for longest reign as a Women’s Champion in wrestling history.

The Glamour Girls captured the championship on September 5th, 1987. Their reign lasted 906 consecutive days, beating out CM Punk’s 761 day reign as World Heavyweight champion. And while most people associate the Jumping Bomb Angels with the title, Martin actually had the belt on her waist during the initial victory.

Martin went on to compete in several matches against the Jumping Bomb Angels. During the third match, she left the ring and walked away from the action. This led to the end of the partnership. Martin later returned to the ring, however, and defeated Sherri Martel in a singles match.

11. Natalya

Natalya WWE

Natalya is one of the best female wrestlers ever to step into a ring. Her legacy began in 2007, when she joined the WWE as part of the Hart family. She went on to capture both the Women’s Championship and Divas Championship during her tenure with the company. In 2012, she left WWE for a brief stint in TNA and returned to WWE in 2013. During her second run with the company, Natalya won the Divas championship once again.

In 2014, Natalya announced her retirement from wrestling. However, she came out of retirement in 2016, capturing the Raw Women’s Championship. Since then, she has remained active in the industry. She wrestled a match against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 33 and defeated Becky Lynch at SummerSlam.

12. Velvet McIntyre

Velvet McIntyre wwe

Velvet McIntyre was one of the earliest women wrestlers, having debuted in 1973. She was part of the original cast of the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2016.

She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 13, 1948. Her father was a professional wrestler named “The Great Malachi.” He died of cancer when Velvet was 10 years old.

McIntyre began wrestling at age 14, training under her uncle, Johnny Valentine. She worked for several promotions during the 1970s including NWA Mid Atlantic and Georgia Championship Wrestling.

In 1974, she joined the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), where she became known as “the Queen of Queens,” competing in tag team matches with Miss Elizabeth. They captured the WWWF World Tag Team Titles in 1976.

After a brief hiatus, she returned to the promotion in 1978, winning the WWWF World Women’s Title. In 1979, she won the inaugural Women’s Championship in the now defunct American Wrestling Association.

When the WWF formed in 1980, McIntyre competed there, capturing the WWF Women’s Championship twice. She held both titles simultaneously for about six weeks in 1981.

From 1983–1984, she competed in Japan, winning the All Asia Tag Team Championship.

13. Rockin’ Robin

Rockin' Robin

Robin began her professional career in 1984, when she joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). She quickly became one of the most popular female wrestlers ever, thanks to her beautiful looks and athletic ability. Her popularity grew even further during 1986, when she won the WWF Women’s Championship. But it wasn’t long before she lost the belt to Sherri Martel. After losing the championship, Robin went on to become one of the biggest stars in the WWF.

At age 20, she was already one of the youngest women to compete in the WWF. And although she left the organization shortly thereafter, she remained a fan favorite throughout her entire run. Even though she didn’t have many opportunities to perform, Robin still managed to make memorable moments happen. At WrestleMania V, she performed “America the Beautiful,” kicking off what turned out to be the final match of the Women’s Division.

14. Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn debuted in 2011 during the second season of NXT. She went on to capture the Divas Title from Eve Torres in 2012, and held onto it for over five months before losing it to her former Chickbuster partner Lee at SummerSlam 2013. Since then, she has been a mainstay on both Raw and SmackDown Live, capturing the Women’s Championship three times, most recently defeating Charlotte Flair for the title at WrestleMania 35.

15. Dawn Marie

Dawn Marie

Al Wilson was a happy young man when he met Dawn Marie. They fell madly in love and got hitched. But it didn’t take long for things to go sour. When Dawn left him for another wrestler named Tommy Dreamer, Al found himself alone and broke.

He tried his best to make a life for himself in wrestling, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t quite right about Dawn. So one day, Al decided to confront her about it. What happened next changed everything.

16. Candice Michelle

Candice Michelle

Michelle wrestled under several names during her career including Candice Michelle, Michelle McCool, and Michelle Starr. She debuted in January 2005 and left the company in 2008. During her tenure, she won the WWE Divas Championship twice and held the WWE Women’s Championship once.

17. Melina

Melina

Melina became one of the hottest women in wrestling during her run on Tough Enough. She was part of the show’s winning team, and many fans hoped she’d become a star. But her career didn’t pan out quite like that.

After being eliminated early on, Melina went on to compete in several matches, including tag team bouts with Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro.

She made her WWE debut alongside Nitro and Mercury, and the trio was a constant target of the media. In fact, they were sometimes referred to as “The Three Amigos.”

18. The Bella Twins

The Bella Twins wwe

The Bella twins are arguably one of the most underrated tag teams in wrestling history. They’ve competed in multiple matches over the course of their careers, including some memorable ones like the 2007 Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 23 main event. And while many fans know about their run as part of Team Angle, it seems like few realize how much they contributed to the women’s division during their tenure there.

In fact, the duo actually had a very unique gimmick.

Every match they’d roll under the ring, and then emerge and Hulk up, as if they hadn’t been competing at either.

WWE has never really pushed the two as a single act or given them individual personalties, so they’re going into this together.

19. Maryse Ouellet

Maryse Ouellet wwe

Maryse Ouellet was born in Quebec City, Canada, on Nov. 12th, 1982. Her father was a professional wrestler named Jacques Rougeau Sr., while her mother was a dancer.

She began training in karate at age 5 and later took up wrestling. In 2002, Maryse won the Canadian Women’s Wrestling Championships. A few years later, she moved to Florida where she trained under Dwayne Johnson.

In 2006, Maryse signed with World Wrestling Entertainment. She debuted in 2007 and quickly rose through the ranks. She competed in several beauty contests throughout her career, including Miss Sports Illustrated International Pageant, Miss USA 2009, and Miss Universe 2010.

In 2011, Maryse won the Divas Championship, becoming the longest reigning champion in the history of WWE. During her reign, she defeated Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Eve Torres, Victoria, Melina, Gail Kim, Alicia Fox, Tamina Snuka, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes, Summer Rae, Emma, Naomi, Layla, Candice Michelle, Kelly Kelly, Maria Kanellis, Nidia, Jacqueline Moore, Jillian Hall, and Torrie Wilson.

During her tenure as champion, Maryse held onto the title for over 712 days. After losing the championship to AJ Lee, Maryse retired from active competition.

After retiring, Maryse continued working for the company, managing Ted DiBiase Jr., and even managed his son, Teddy Long, for a short period of time.

Today, Maryse lives in Los Angeles with her husband, former NFL player Greg Hardy. They married in 2012.

20. Terri Runnels

Terri Runnels wwe

When Runnels was 15 years old, she met professional wrestler Dusty Rhodes. He asked her out, and they began dating. They were engaged for about six months before breaking up.

Runnels went on to date WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry Lawler, whom she married on September 4, 1996.

While they were married, the couple became parents to twin sons named Joseph and John. In 2002, however, they divorced.

In 2004, Runnels met fellow pro wrestler Goldust. They dated for five years before marrying on August 10, 2009. During their marriage, they adopted another son, Daniel.

21. Jazz

Jazz wwe

Jazz wasn’t always a fan favorite among WWE fans, but she quickly became one of the most popular wrestlers in the company during the late 1990s. She was already known for being a great wrestler, but it was her looks — specifically her short hair — that really stood out. And while many women in sports entertainment still wear their hair long, there are plenty of others like Jazz who don’t.

Dancing career

El was a dancer for Carnival Cruises. She had been working there since 2006 and was a member of the dance troupe “The 5.” In 2018, she suffered a serious injury while performing during a cruise ship show. She didn’t wrestle — at least not professionally — but she did help start something big.

Mae Young was just 16 when she became the youngest ever winner of the Miss USA pageant. Her prize included $1,500, a brand-new car and some lessons about life and love. “I think I had a little too much champagne,” Mae told reporters after winning the contest.

But Mae wasn’t done celebrating. In fact, she had plans to make the most of her winnings. She’d already been training for a career in showbiz since childhood, and now she wanted to put those skills to use. So she signed up for a class at the University of Miami where she learned how to act, sing and dance.

As Mae got better at performing, she found herself getting offers to do commercials and TV shows. Eventually, she landed a role on the popular sitcom Happy Days. There, she played Marion Cunningham, a waitress who worked at Arnold’s Hamburger Emporium.

While working on Happy Days, Mae met a man named Bill Belew, who owned a wrestling school called the World Wide Wrestling Federation. He invited her to come work out there and learn how to wrestle. Mae accepted his offer, and soon she was traveling around the world with him.

On Oct. 30, 1979, Mae joined the rest of the WWWF roster at Madison Square Garden for the inaugural Wrestlemania event. The following day, she won the WWWF Women’s championship.

That changed when Vince’s son Shane came into the picture. He didn’t want to work for his father anymore, and wanted to start his own wrestling promotion. In 1994, Vince gave him $1 million to do just that. With the money, Shane bought the name and logo of the original World Championship Wrestling (WCW), renaming it World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Vince McMahon Sr. wasn’t happy about this development, and he tried everything possible to stop his son. However, Shane proved to be quite stubborn, and refused to give up control of the company. So, Vince hit upon another plan. Instead of trying to compete against his son directly, he decided to use his wife.

In 1995, Vince asked Stephanie to join the WWF as his new executive vice president. This put her in charge of all of the company’s business operations, including booking and talent relations. Early life

Linda Marie Edwards was born on November 30, 1962, in Portsmouth, Virginia, United States, to Linda Jean (née Hutton), a homemaker, and Robert Edward “Bob” Edwards, Jr., a construction worker. She grew up with three siblings—two sisters, Diane and Susan, and one brother, Bob III. As a child, she wanted to become a ballerina, but her parents did not approve of it because they thought ballet was too expensive. Instead, she learned tap dancing. At the age of 12, she began modeling to earn money for dance lessons.

She met Vince McMahon in 1979, when he was sixteen years old. He was working at his father’s wrestling promotion, WWWF, where she was employed as a receptionist. They married on August 21, 1980.

In 1981, Edwards gave birth to twins, Shane and Stephanie. After the birth, she took a job as a secretary at WWF headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. While there, she befriended wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and Brutus Beefcake. During this period, she became known as Miss Elizabeth due to her resemblance to Elizabeth Taylor. Edwards returned to New York City in 1985. She continued to work for WWE full-time, eventually becoming vice president of talent relations and development. She later served as executive director of women’s programming.

While living in Manhattan, she developed a friendship with wrestler Mick Foley, whom she later introduced to her husband. With Foley’s help, Vince McMahon convinced his wife to return to WWF in 1990.

In 1991, she gave birth to triplets, David, Maryse, and Reid.

In 1993, Edwards divorced McMahon. When she left him, she was pregnant with Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the son of fellow wrestler Jesse “The Body” Ventura and his second wife Donna Rice.

Early career

Vince McMahon began his wrestling career in the mid-1970s working as a booker for World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). His work included booking matches for WWWF TV tapings, which he did under the name “Bookmaster.” He eventually became the promotion’s general manager. On May 16, 1984, McMahon bought out partner Jack Tunney and renamed the promotion WWF (World Wrestling Federation).

In 1985, McMahon left WWWF to form the short-lived New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), where he served as president and CEO. NJPW folded in 1986, and McMahon returned to the United States.

McMahon formed the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in early 1990. WCW was a major competitor to WWE throughout the 1990s. After losing control of the company in 1998, McMahon sold it to Ted Turner, who merged it into AOL Time Warner Cable.

In 2001, McMahon reacquired full ownership of WCW, renaming it World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). At the same time, he launched a second company, XFL Football League, which lasted one season.

He expanded the company into other areas such as movies, music, video games, toys, and clothing. His wife Linda became president of the company in 1986, while he remained chairman and chief executive officer. They divorced in 1990. Their son Shane took over as CEO in 1991.

McMahon’s memorandum to Pat Patterson

In a 1989 memo to the vice president, McMahon directed Patterson to dismiss on-call physician George Zaharoff and warn him of impending charges of distributing steroids.

Although you and I discussed before on continuing to have Zaharoff at our events as the on-call doctor, I think that is no longer a good idea. Vince agrees and would like for you call Zaharoff and let him know he is not wanted here anymore at any of our events and to give him notice of any action that the Justice Dept. is planning.

This memo became known publicly as Tip-Off Memo during her campaign for Senate. It became a political liability against her in both the nominations and general elections.

Federal steroids investigation (2007–2009)

The U.S. Congress launched an investigation into steroid use in professional wrestling following the suicide of wrestler Chris Benoit in 2007. In 2008, Congress held hearings about the issue. On February 24, 2009, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform published its report, finding that the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organization failed to investigate allegations of steroid abuse among wrestlers, including Benoit. The committee found that the WWE did not adequately police the use of performance enhancing drugs within the company. The committee recommended that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) conduct an independent review of WWE’s policies regarding drug testing.
